Mud bakes on. Chain lube turns to grinding paste. Get it off before it eats your bike. Bike wash lifts the worst of it without stripping seal lips or pitting anodised parts. Degreaser strips the drivetrain and cases back to bare metal before you spanner anything. Biodegradable formulas keep it off your conscience and off your plastics. Wash the bike, then walk round it. That's when you spot the cracked subframe bolt.
