What it is
The SHOWA OIL SEAL STOPPER RING FORK, motocross part. Stocked by Iron Offroad, the UK MX hard parts specialist.
Pop the dust seal off, prise this little circlip out of its groove, and the fork oil seal lifts straight out. That's its whole job: it sits in the machined groove in the slider and stops the oil seal walking up the leg every time you compress the forks. Lose it across the workshop floor (you will) and the rebuild stops dead. Reuse a stretched or kinked one and it won't seat fully, the seal creeps, and you're stripping the leg again next race weekend. Fit a fresh ring with every seal change. Get it fully home in the groove before the dust seal goes back on.
