Foam loses its loft. After a season of sweat and grit the original padding in a youth Fleet packs down and the fit goes loose, which is exactly when a lid stops doing its job. This comfort liner snaps back into the shell and restores a snug, repeatable fit. It is the cheapest way to bring an otherwise sound helmet back to spec between bigger rebuilds. Match the liner to your shell size so it sits true against the internal vent channels. Good hygiene through a long MX or enduro year, too.
