Ribbed traction strips run across the top surface, locking your position under hard acceleration and letting you brace against the seat on the brakes. Direct replacement for the factory cover: strip the old staples, warm the material, tension nose to tail, then work the sides. A pneumatic stapler makes the job far easier on the plastic pan.
