The guide keeps the exhaust valve stem true to the seat. Worn guides cause the valve to move laterally, ruining the seal and the seat. Replace these during a head overhaul to restore factory tolerances. This part is designed for a standard press-fit. Ensure the inner bore is honed to the correct size for the valve stem.
