Threads into the rear hub to lock the bearing against the internal spacer. Seizes in service. Drive notches round off under a punch and hammer. Use a proper pin spanner — chase the threads, smear anti-seize on reassembly. Direct OEM replacement across the air-cooled XR and XL line, from the XL 200 R through to the XR 650 L. Seat the bearing fully before torquing the retainer home. A chewed or loose one shows up as lateral play at the rear wheel, then chatter under brakes. Cheap part. Buy two while the hub is stripped.
