Threads into the rear hub to lock the bearing against the internal spacer. Pin-spanner job — the drive notches round off and the threads seize if you go at it with a punch. Clean the threads, smear of anti-seize, send it. Direct OEM replacement on CR125R, CR250R and CR500R rear hubs. Seat the bearing fully before you torque it down. Skip this on a rebuild and you'll feel lateral play in the back wheel within a few rides. Standard hub-service consumable — replace it once, forget about it.
