Maintaining correct valve lash is essential for engine performance and easy starting. These shims sit under the cam to set the gap between the lobe and the valve stem. As the engine hours increase, valves stretch and seats recede, closing the clearance. Swapping shims allows you to bring the top-end back within OEM tolerances. Always use a micrometer to check the thickness of each shim before fitting. Ensure the cam chain tunnel is covered during the process to avoid losing parts into the crankcase.
