Friction and heat eventually wear the ring face, resulting in lost compression. Replace these during a top-end rebuild to return the engine to factory specifications. Check the ring end gap in the bore before final assembly. Ensure any markings face upwards toward the head. These are engineered to withstand the rigours of competitive off-road use.
