Slips over the crossbrace on a classic bar to soak up the impact when your chest or chin meets the bars. The fabric cover is the point here: it reads correct on a period restoration where a modern plastic pad would look out of place. Hook-and-loop closure means it fits the standard crossbrace bends used across older two-strokes and enduro builds. Old foam goes brittle and the cloth picks up oil and UV damage, so treat it as a wear item and replace it when it stops looking sharp. Centre it before you ride.
