Showa's wiper sits up top on a 37mm fork tube, scraping grit off the stanchion before it ever reaches the oil seal lip. That's the whole job. Skip it and a few rides of dust and track spray will chew the oil seal underneath, then you're stripping the leg for a full reseal instead of a ten-minute swap. Fit it when you've got the boot off for any reason. Check the lip for splits, hardening or a glazed face. If the rubber's gone flat or it's weeping past, bin it. Pair it with a fresh oil seal while the leg's apart, clean the bushing groove, and slide it on with the marked face out. Honda and Kawasaki road bikes in this fork size all share the same tube and OD.
