What it is
The SHOWA GAS SEAL FORK 10x20.2x6 mm, motocross part. Stocked by Iron Offroad, the UK MX hard parts specialist.
This is the gas seal that lives inside the cartridge, keeping the nitrogen charge on its side of the piston and the oil on the other. When it's tired the two start mixing, the damping cavitates, and the fork feels mushy on fast hits and vague over braking bumps. You won't spot it from outside. It shows up on the dyno or in how the bike rides after the first long moto. Replace it at a full fork rebuild, not as a roadside fix. Fits Showa cartridges on KX 250, KX 250F, RM-Z 250 and RM-Z 450.
