What it is

The SHOWA ROD PIPE FORK L=390mm Ø12.5mm, motocross part. Stocked by Iron Offroad, the UK MX hard parts specialist.

Lives inside the Showa cartridge on KX250F and RM-Z250 forks, guiding the push rod and routing oil through the valve stack. The 12.5mm OD runs against the seal head, so any scoring on the outer face writes itself onto your fork oil within a handful of motos. Pull the cartridge on the bench, wipe the rod down, and hold it under a light. Bluing, galling, or a lip you can catch a fingernail on means scrap it. Fit a fresh 390mm pipe, flush the cartridge with clean fork oil, and torque the base valve to spec.
