This steel unit mounts to the gearbox output shaft to drive the chain. It is a high-wear component that should be checked for hooked teeth or thinning during every service. Mud and sand act as an abrasive, wearing the tooth profile and affecting power transfer. When fitting, ensure the offset is correctly aligned with your rear drive to prevent chain derailment. If you are dropping a tooth for more bottom-end punch on technical climbs, verify your chain tensioner has enough travel. Always secure the part with the OEM-spec circlip or locking plate to ensure it remains seated.
