This steel drive component sits on the countershaft to transfer power to the rear wheel. It is subject to constant friction and grit, leading to tooth hooking over time. Check the condition of the splines on your output shaft before installation. If you are increasing the tooth count for faster fire-road sections, ensure the chain has enough slack for full suspension travel. It is standard workshop practice to replace this alongside the rear drive and chain. Tighten the retaining nut to the specific torque value found in your workshop manual for your specific bike.
