This part sits on the engine output shaft. It is the hardest-working part of your drivetrain due to the small radius and high rotational speed. Steel construction ensures it survives the grit and grime of off-road use. Inspect the teeth for hooking or thinning every few rides. A worn sprocket here will rapidly accelerate chain and rear sprocket wear. Use a new lock washer when installing to secure the nut.
