The shell encloses the stanchion at the front and sides, taking the hit where a half-shell guard leaves the inner tube exposed. That matters in stone-laced singletrack and rutted hard enduro lines where roost arrives from off-angle. Picks up the OEM lower-lug bolts, no bracketry to fabricate. Keeps grit clear of the dust seal and stops pebble pitting on the chrome, which is what kills fork oil life on a WP 48mm leg. Standard kit for serious enduro builds.
