Upper fork guards clamp to the stanchions between the lower triple and the dust seal. Their job is roost: stone chips, mud clods, and grit thrown up by the bike in front, all aimed straight at the polished slider surface. Pit a stanchion and the next casualty is the fork seal, then the oil behind it. These wrap the exposed working length where a lower guard cannot reach. Fitment is fork-diameter dependent, so check stanchion size against your bike's spec before ordering. Bolt-on, no fork strip needed. A cheap part that defends an expensive rebuild.
