What it is

The 47mm guide bush is the Teflon-coated bearing that locates the inner fork tube inside the outer. It carries the side load from braking and landings while letting the stanchion slide freely. When the coating thins, you get stiction at the top of the stroke, oil weep past the seal, and a vague front end on chop. Fit a fresh pair every time you replace the seals. Showa 47mm front ends covered RM/RM-Z 125-450 and Honda/Kawasaki 4T platforms through the mid-2000s before the move to 48 and 49mm tubes. Drift the bush home with a proper seal driver, not a punch.
