The airbox cover seals the intake against mud and water while keeping the filter fed with air. On the Honda CRF 250 and 450 R/RX it sits where your leg grips the bike, so braces and boots wear the plastic thin and eventually break the seal that keeps grit off your filter. This is a straight OEM-pattern replacement on the standard mounts. Wipe the mating face clean before you fit it so the gasket line stays dust-tight.
