The arch is the wear part: it cops the roost, the ground and the trailside scenery, and over enough seasons it cracks, scuffs through or goes brittle. This swaps onto your existing brackets through the same bolt holes, so you refresh the guard without buying the whole kit again. Check the brackets are still true before fitting; a tweaked mount will load the new plastic wrong. A sensible spare if you ride heavy roost or tight woods and go through arches.
