The open end keeps your wrists free in a crash; the vented front face still blocks stones and roost off the levers and channels air to your hands on the long ones. Mounts to standard and oversized bars across the KX, RM-Z and YZ ranges where there's room at the perch. Fit them when your old guards have gone brittle or taken a solid hit, or to add cover to a bare bike. Clamp them tight so they don't spin under load.
