Steel pinch bolts at the front axle are a low-priority item until one rounds off mid-event. On the CRF 450 R and RWE the fork lugs are tight-tolerance castings — corroded hardware makes a routine wheel swap into a workshop problem. Grade-5 titanium holds its head geometry through repeated removal, doesn't pit in muddy conditions, and cuts a few grams of unsprung weight right at the axle clamp. Fit with anti-seize on the threads; titanium galls against aluminium without it. Torque to manual spec — the lugs don't need brute force, they need consistency.
