Drive plates interleave with the frictions to lock the hub and basket together. Heat is the primary cause of failure. Overheated steels warp or turn blue, leading to clutch drag and difficult neutral selection. Replacing only the friction plates is a false economy if your steels are distorted. These plates provide a flat, stable mating surface to ensure clean disengagement and consistent stack height. Check your OEM service manual for the specific wear limits before assembly. Clean the plates thoroughly to remove any protective coating before they go into the bike.
