What it is

Drop the tyre pressure for sand or roots and the bead wants to spin on the rim. Without a lock you shred the valve stem off the tube in one lap. The 1.85" fits most small-bore rear hoops and wider fronts — 85s, 125 rears, some 250F fronts. Alloy body keeps weight off the rim, knurled face bites the bead. Fit it opposite the valve, snug the nut while seating the bead, then torque once the tyre's up to pressure. Check the stud every tyre change — they corrode quick under the mousse or tube, and a seized one means cutting it off.
