- It runs a trials-pattern carcass under an enduro tread. The carcass flexes and conforms like a trials tyre, so the contact patch is huge at low pressure. The tread keeps enough void to clear mud and bite loam. You get trials-grade traction on rock and roots without the blank-slate uselessness a pure trials tyre has the moment the ground turns soft.
- The Tractionator carcass is built heavy so it resists the heat and squirm that kill softer enduro rubber on the road. The casing keeps its shape at speed instead of folding under the bike, which is what makes a knobbly feel vague above 50mph. The compound is mixed to resist tearing and chunking when the knobs are loaded sideways on hot tarmac. That matters for dual-sport riders putting real miles in to reach a trailhead. You arrive with the tread still square, not rounded off after one trip.
- No. The sidewalls are deliberately soft. Start at 12 to 14psi and only drop lower if you need more grip on technical ground. Going higher kills the carcass advantage.
- Some models are reversible. Mount one way for drive bias on soft soil. Flip the rotation and the leading edges work harder on braking, which is what you want for hard-pack and rock. Same tyre, two characters.
- Look at the intermediate Tractionator models with the reinforced tread blocks. The block geometry takes the hammer of rocky desert trail without folding, and the spacing is open enough to bite into forest loam and leaf litter. Casing thickness sits above a standard MX tyre, so thorns and sharp shale stop being a constant puncture lottery. For a rider who travels between regions and refuses to swap rubber for every weekend, this is the band that earns its place. Sacrifice a little outright grip at each extreme for one tyre that does both jobs properly.
- Yes. Stiff casing or not, a modern four-stroke will spin the tyre on the rim once pressures drop, and the valve stem tears clean out of the tube. Fit a rim lock.
