These alignment dowels ensure the cylinder and head sit perfectly square on the crankcase. They are often lost or damaged during teardown when prying components apart. A crushed or corroded dowel will prevent the gaskets from sealing correctly and can lead to oil leaks or coolant passage misalignment. These replace OEM parts 16573-83 and 16573-83A. Always check for burrs on the mating surfaces before pressing these into place. Precision alignment is vital for the longevity of your top-end components and overall engine balance during a rebuild.
