These seals sit atop the guides in your cylinder head. They prevent oil from leaking down the stem and into the combustion chamber or exhaust port. Hardened or cracked seals lead to blue smoke on start-up and heavy carbon deposits on the valve faces. Replace these every time you have the top-end apart for a piston change or valve service. They are a critical consumable for maintaining clean combustion. Use a dedicated seal driver for installation to avoid tearing the inner lip on the valve stem grooves.
