MICHELIN
Michelin runs deep on off-road rubber. MX tyres for hardpack through sand, dual-sport for the road-legal trail bike, and heavy-duty tubes that take a hit without folding. Compounds are mixed for the heat a working tyre actually sees, not a showroom spec sheet. Tubes are thick enough to shrug off pinch flats when the pressure drops on rocks. Pick the category, match it to the bike, fit and ride.

MICHELIN — frequently asked questions
Common questions, straight answers. No fluff.
- Tracker. It's road-legal and the carcass is built for mileage on mixed surfaces, so green lanes and the ride to them won't shred it. StarCross is a track tyre. The compounds are tuned for specific dirt conditions and they wear fast on tarmac transitions.
- Grease it. Properly. Coat the inside of the tyre and the whole mousse in the silicone gel that comes in the box before fitting. The gel cuts friction, and friction is what cooks a mousse on fast sections. Pull it out every few months, inspect for shrinkage, and re-grease. Skip that step and you'll find a crumbling sausage inside your tyre and a bike that handles like it's running over marbles.
- Yes. The arrow on the sidewall points forward. Get it backwards and the tread blocks fold the wrong way under brakes, you lose front-end bite on corner entry and the knobs wear unevenly.
- Six months to a year for most riders. Heat is the killer. When it feels soft under the lever or you see crumbs on the rim tape, it's done.
- Soft-terrain pattern. Tall knobs, wide spacing, paddle-shaped rear blocks. The knobs dig past the loose surface to find something solid, the gaps stop the tread packing up with mud. On a 250F or 450 that's what lets you hold throttle through a sand whoop instead of bogging. An intermediate tyre spins, ploughs, and dumps you on the face of the next jump.
- The reinforced carcass takes a hit. You can run lower pressures for grip without pinch-flatting on every embedded rock, and the rim stays straight when you clip one at speed.
